Tübingen, the hidden gem of Germany

A hidden gem of Germany, Tübingen seems like a place out of a fairy tale. It is a medieval town in Swabia, located just 40 minutes from Stuttgart. An ideal destination in Europe for those looking for a romantic place, but also for young people: the cultural ferment, thanks to the universities, is very present here and the city is really lively. A walk through the historic centre, of rare beauty among German cities, and along the Neckar (with the "Hölderlin Tower") is a real pleasure, during this walk you should not miss the romantic little island in the middle of the Neckar with the "Avenue of the plane trees". Tübingen, the "city of scholars", so called because of the many famous names that attended the university (founded in 1477), is old and young at the same time: old for the medieval image that the city has managed to preserve, young for the presence of many students (28,000 students on 85,000 inhabitants) who choose Tübingen just for the specific atmosphere that you can breathe here. The average age of the inhabitants of Tübingen is 39 years. As far as quality of life is concerned, Tübingen is among the top cities in Germany! Marktplatz is very picturesque and three days a week there is a market here. In addition to the characteristic half-timbered houses, the Rathaus overlooks the square and is recognisable by its frescoed facade and astronomical clock on the roof. Also not to be missed are the Gothic Stiftskirche Sankt Georg and Schloss Hohentubigengen, the castle which also houses the archaeological museum. The Kunsthalle is a museum that exposes temporary exhibitions but of international level.
