Le Vieux Bassin is the picturesque name given to the typical Norman port of Honfleur. It was built in 1681 and in order to enlarge the old port it was necessary to destroy part of the city ramparts. Today, the Vieux Bassin is certainly one of the most characteristic places to visit.
Very famous is also the poetic spectacle offered by its houses reflected on the water, especially thanks to the impressionist painters of the 19th century. The 17th and 18th century houses surrounding the port have been listed as historical monuments.
There is no doubt that you will be seduced by their narrow facades and slate roofs, while the ships moored in the Vieux Bassin will give you the feeling that time has stood still.
