Created in 1961, the Maison de la culture du Havre moved in 1982 to the striking space designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, creator of Brasilia. Now an emblem of the city, this complex consists of two curved white concrete volumes, accessible by a game of ramps.

The larger one houses Le Havre’s Scène nationale (Le Volcan); in the Petit Volcan, on the other hand, a large, modern and comfortable library is set up.

The main auditorium has been refitted, the acoustics improved and the square outside redesigned.

The programme is packed with nationally recognised theatre productions, and dance and music events.
