Ocracoke island: The Pearl of Outer Banks

Ocracoke has a special beach atmosphere. Known as the Pearl of Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island has miles of wild, secluded beaches. A special part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Ocracoke beaches feel far away from the rest of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. You can easily access the beach just outside of Ocracoke Village. Designated by Dr. Beach as one of the best beaches in America, the Lifeguard Beach is the place to go if you have a car and want to go to the beach. This beach can see pretty big waves at the end of summer, which is great for surfers, but families with younger children will appreciate this wild beach much more if they arrive earlier in the year.
