In the rooms of the ancient stables of Villa Mazzucchelli is located the Museum of Fashion and Costume. The collection, which originates from Franca Meo’s research and travels, consists of about 5,000 pieces, including clothes, accessories, hats, handkerchiefs, umbrellas, fans, gloves, jewellery, underwear and household linen, sacred vestments, work tools, children’s clothing and toys, chronologically dating from the mid-eighteenth century to the birth of high fashion in the twentieth century. A collection of ethnic clothes from the 19th and 20th centuries enriches the museum’s collection. Among the materials that make up the rich collection are also historical photographs, antique prints, postcards and figurines from the 19th and 20th centuries, which constitute a specific section of iconographic documents on the evolution of clothing taste in the modern age.
The exhibition is divided into six sections, starting from the Sala delle Colonne, which is periodically rearranged for temporary exhibitions dedicated to fashion.
