Moussaka is certainly one of the most famous dishes of Greek cuisine prepared with what are the most typical foods of this culture: lamb, eggplant and cheese.
The moussaka is made with alternating layers of fried eggplant and meat sauce, sprinkled with grated cheese: finally, the layers are covered with abundant béchamel sauce and the moussaka is baked in the oven.
As far as its origins are concerned, there is much credence to the hypothesis that moussaka was born on the island of Cyprus, or perhaps Crete, which, in the past, suffered greatly from Arab and Turkish influence, particularly in the culinary tradition.
