If you are passing through Olimje, I recommend a visit to the monastery-castle of the Friars Minor.The small village of Olimje is situated in the shelter of Mount Rudnica, in the area of Kozjansko Park. Its grandeur is conferred by the beautiful castle, once the property of the Attems counts, now owned by the Municipality of Podčertek and converted into a recognizable monastery where the Friars Minor of St. Francis live. Next to it is the magnificent Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, one of the most beautiful Baroque works in our country. Inside the monastery, on the ground floor of the southern tower there is also a priceless work of art hidden: an old monastery apothecary’s shop with frescoes which is a legacy of the Pauline Fathers who lived in the Olimje monastery for 120 years (1663-1783).
In the garden of the monastery they are now also cultivating medicinal herbs and preparing herbal teas and salves.
