Moena is one of the most beautiful tourist resorts in the Val di Fassa. For its charm it has been called the "fairy of the Dolomites".
The magic of this place, where the snow-capped peaks at dawn and dusk are tinged with pink creating fairytale scenery, is also linked to a legend. It is said that King Laurin lived with his daughter Ladina in a beautiful rose garden, but one day the girl in love decided to run away with the knight of Latemar. The king’s wrath transformed the rose garden into a mountain of rock, leaving its reddish colour unchanged.
Among the places to visit are the old buildings of Casa Ramon, in the middle of the main street of the trade, where the gabelle used to be collected, and Casa del Dazio, the second place where duties were collected. To see the two churches, that of San Volfango and San Vigilio, next to each other. The first, rich in frescoes dating back to 1400, is dedicated to the patron saint of woodcutters. The second, instead, was consecrated in 1164: inside it the frescoes by the artist Valentino Rovisi from Modena and other details, such as the crucifix and the drawings of the stained-glass windows by Cirillo Dellantonio.
