The Sultan’s Palace is a faithful reproduction of the historical building from the Sultanate era. This replica was finished in 1984 using traditional materials and techniques: the roof, made of Belian ironwood, fits perfectly with the wooden walls, without the use of any nails. In other words, a true masterpiece of architecture, which now houses the Museum of Culture.
It is located at the foot of St Paul’s Hill, in the heart of the historic city centre.
The Malacca Sultanate Palace is a modern take on the "Istana" (Royal Palace) of Malacca Sultan Mansur Shah, a structure built in 1465 and destroyed in 1511 by Portuguese forces.
