Lara beach is one of the most famous beaches in Cyprus and fortunately also one of the most difficult to reach. The beach is located in the western part of the island in the Akamas peninsula within the national park of the same name. Long and with fine golden sand Lara beach is famous because it has always been the preferred place for two species of turtles to lay their eggs. The caretta caretta and the green turtle come here.
The beach is open to the public during the day but not at night, so you have to leave half an hour after sunset. The turtles’ eggs are protected by a kind of metal cage that allows them not to be stepped on. Each "cage" is numbered and kept under control.
