A Gem of rare beauty and wonderful facets on which the blue of the sky and the red of summer sunsets are reflected: set in a precious crown of mountains and hills embellished with chromatic patterns and ancient engravings. We are not talking about a jewel, we are on Lake Iseo, where you can lose yourself in the magic of ancient villages, ampoules of scents and flavors from the kitchens of picturesque restaurants where the voluptuous taste of traditional cuisine is capable of changing the fate of the day. The famous Casoncelli alla Bresciana seasoned with melted butter and sage, baked Tench with polenta celebrated every year in July in Clusane d’Iseo, fillets of Golden Perch, grilled Whitefish and other delicacies. All accompanied by noble notes of vinoFranciacorta.
The lake is only sixth in size in the ranking of Italian lakes, but it holds the singular record of hosting the largest lake island in Europe: MonteIsola, a true green jewel dotted with tiny villages and rare patrician villas. North and south of MonteIsola are the two smaller islands of Loreto and S.Paolo.
Nestled between mountains and hills, Lake Iseo is a lake unlike any other and owes its originality to the variety of its landscape and natural beauty.
Toward the north, Lake Iseo is framed by the perennially snow-capped mountains of the Adamello glacier, from which the waters that feed it come via the Oglio River; to the south, on the other hand, the landscape becomes gentler and more hilly. These aspects assert themselves overbearingly in many stretches of the coastline, between the cliffs plunging steeply into the lake and the rolling green hills.
Of the various historical eras there are still imposing testimonies: castles and towers, churches and monasteries, villas and stately mansions, ancient stone villages, and works of art.
Of the centuries-old work of man, terraces, olive groves, vineyards remain as evidence. Finally, there are places where nature has always been sovereign and protected.
There are many natural phenomena worthy of note: the Valle del Freddo nature reserve, the caves of Abisso Bueno Fonteno, the pyramids of Zone, the Torbiere d’Iseo .
