The XVIIth century Villa del Grumello overlooks the first basin of Lake Como, it is surrounded by a centuries-old park of great natural value; a unique landscape a few steps away from the town centre.
Thanks to its refined spaces and stunning view of the lake, it was a historical residence of well-known families – the Odescalchi, then the Giovio, and, from the second half of the XIXth century, the Celesia – who hosted famous personalities such as Vincenzo Monti, Alessandro Volta and Ugo Foscolo. The park of Villa del Grumello follows a romantic design; the panoramic footpaths connect the many viewpoints and the different spaces: the majestic cedar tree and the cluster of maritime pines, the row of magnolias, the pond with flourishing lotus flowers and water lilies. The parterre is embellished with typical plants of the area, featuring collections of aster, hydrangeas and windflowers among the most important in Italy. Of the numerous trees, the redwoods, the camphor tree and a centuries-old specimen of Ginko biloba are especially noteworthy.
Furthermore, the park of Villa del Grumello is at the centre of the Chilometro della Conoscenza, a natural and cultural path encompassing centuries-old parks for a total of 17 hectares, from Villa Olmo to Villa Sucota, the result of shared initiatives and excellent places.
