Casa del Profumo Femminis-Farina collects testimonies that guide the visitor to discover the history of Cologne Water, whose formula was conceived by Giovanni Paolo Femminis, originally from Crana, a small hamlet of Santa Maria Maggiore, who emigrated to Germany at a very young age and finally settled in Cologne.
Aqua Mirabilis, born as a soothing essence recognized for its medicinal properties by the University of Cologne in 1727, where it was presented by Giovanni Paolo Femminis, then became a much sought after perfume. Important for the success of the activity was the friendship and support of a merchant from Vigezzo who emigrated to Maastricht, Giovanni Maria Farina, who followed the commercialization of this medicinal essence which later became a much appreciated perfume.
The ground floor of the structure houses, in addition to a small display of herbs and essences used in the original recipe, also an info point with a small store that offers products related to the House of Perfume, such as the "Aqua Mirabilis" herbal tea; the "bomberbe", sparkling perfumed wafers; elegant room diffusers and, of course, various types of Eau de Cologne.
