Built in 1634 with marble elements borrowed from the coeval wall fountain at the base of the bell tower of the Cathedral of S. Maria della Pace, the fountain of S. Antonio rises in front of the former civic hospital, today’s Carabinieri Barracks. Originally it had monumental dimensions and was made up of two big masks: today the only big mask is surmounted by a plaque supported by two small columns that summarizes its role, destination and value. It is considered a talking fountain as it breaks the silence, quenches the thirst and adorns the square.
