Domus domini imperatoris in Ebulo" it is considered one of the most important domains of the Middle Ages. Its reconstruction dates back to the second half of the eleventh century, probably at the time of the feudal rule of the first lord of Eboli, William of Hauteville, brother of Robert Guiscard, Prince of Salerno.
A document dating back to 1640 testifies that the castle was built on top of a pre-existing Longobard fortress. The complex, now a district house, is commonly identified as Castello Colonna because in the 15th century it underwent substantial restoration work on behalf of Antonio Colonna, nephew of Pope Martin V.
