The 2 Pisan towers, the Tower of San Pancrazio, which stands on the highest point of the city, and the Tower of the Elephant, which owes its name to the small stone elephant placed on a corner shelf, and the Tower of the Eagle.
The Bastion of Saint Remy, adorned with palm trees, holm oaks and Aleppo pines, was built in the late 1800s on the old Spanish bastions of the Zecca and the Sperone, with a facade of granite and yellow and white limestone. The Umberto I Terrace, The Belvedere of Cagliari, and the Covered Promenade were built later, in the early 1900s. From the Bastion of St. Remy one can glimpse the historic quarters of Marina and Villanova, until one glimpses the Campidarno plain, the Molentargius pond, and in the distance the peaks of the Seven Brothers. The esplanade of the ramparts is home to a quaint flea market every Sunday morning, and the covered promenade hosts exhibitions and events.
