Fermo

Fermo is thus situated between the Adriatic Sea, only eight kilometers from the urban center, and the typical towns that reach as far as the Sibillini Mountains, the so-called Blue Mountains. This privileged position allows Fermo to have a clean sea, well-equipped beaches and a hinterland that becomes a natural gateway to the Sibillini Mountains where one can enjoy, even in summer, the tranquility offered by the agritourisms in the area and facilities equipped for trekking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Fermo is undoubtedly a city of culture. This is evidenced by the centuries-old history of its university as well as the monuments and the structure of the city itself. Indeed, Fermo preserves an intact Renaissance urban layout that winds from the beautiful Piazza del Popolo through a series of itineraries dotted with churches, noble palaces, courtyards and artistic portals. The Palazzo dei Priori, built at the end of the 13th century, is the oldest palace in the city born from the aggregation of already existing buildings and unified by an imposing Renaissance facade only in 1500. Inside the palace is the Archaeological Museum where Fermo artifacts are kept and the Pinacoteca Civica, which preserves the famous late-Gothic tablets with the stories of St. Lucy by the Venetian Jacobello del Fiore, Rubens’ Adoration of the Shepherds and Lanfranco’s Pentecost. Particular within the museum is the Mappamondo Room, which houses the Mappamondo made in 1713 by Abbot Amanzio Moroncelli. Not to be missed is the underground area, which houses a complex of Roman Cisterns dating back to the Augustan period and which are among the most important in the world. They are a must-see for anyone visiting the city even for a few hours. Also very beautiful is the Cathedral with its Romanesque-Gothic facade and interior, modified to neoclassical style in the 18th century. Among the Churches, the Oratory of Santa Monica is definitely worth a visit where some of the most appreciated and prestigious late Gothic frescoes in the Marche region are kept. Science museums are enclosed within Villa Vitali and boast an open-air theater. A visit to the city of Fermo cannot fail to include a look at the company outlets of the biggest names in fashion in the world. Among the biggest names we have Nero Giardini, Prada, Tod’s- Della Valle, Paciotti, Fornarina. Fermo is also famous for its production of hats and accessories.
