Chora, the heart of Andros in the Cyclades

Chora is the major centre of the Greek island of Andros in the northeastern Cyclades. Chora Andros has neoclassical buildings that give it a different appearance from other towns in the Cyclades. The town is divided into an old and new part. The older part of the town is built on a slender peninsula that juts out into the centre of the bay. Chora is an elegant and elegant city that develops along a long pedestrian street – one of the oldest in Greece -, from which there are picturesque alleys with stairs leading to the sea. Along the pedestrian street there are bars, restaurants, pastel-coloured buildings and three characteristic churches painted in white and blue. The town is embraced by two lovely beaches, one on its right and the other on its left. The pedestrian street leads to the largest square on the island, dedicated to the Unknown Sailor, dominated by the bronze statue of the same name: it is dedicated to all the men who died at sea. In front of the square, on a natural rock stands what remains of the fortress that protected the city.
