Chamousira Fenilliaz Gold Mine

The Chamousira Fenilliaz mine is the most important gold mine in the Aosta Valley. The discovery of the gold mine of Brusson dates back to 1899; it was active from 1900 until the end of the ’80s of the last century. This deposit was exploited with some success by the English company "The Evançon Gold Mining Company Limited" between 1903 and 1906. The research permit was then passed on to the Italian Rivetti family who, however, had less luck. Main points of interest The mine has an underground extension of about 1,600 meters. In the company of guides, today it is possible to visit: the gallery at level 7 of the Fenilliaz lode, along an evocative underground route excavated in the heart of the mountain; the Museum of the Chamousira Mine, situated in a panoramic structure that insists on the external area once occupied by the cableway for the transport of the mineral; the "Joseph Herbet Documentation Centre", a permanent exhibition where some interesting photographic evidence and period cartographies are exhibited.
