At an altitude of 1200 m, in the heart of the Aspromonte National Park and precisely in the municipality of Samo, the Ferraina torrent makes a jump of 70 meters, forming the most beautiful waterfalls of the massif. The Forgiarelle can be reached from several places, but our excursion starts from Serro Cerasia, for a total of 17 km among woodland tracks, inaccessible paths and small fords. We follow some tracks up to the locality Croce di Dio sia Lodato, to enjoy an amazing panorama, which arrives suddenly, which goes as far as the sea and includes some of the most interesting peaks of the Ionian Aspromonte, such as Puntone Galera, Monte Perre, Monte Iofri and Monte Scapparrone, from here a path leads us into the Ferraina forest, with almost millenary specimens of oak farnetto of a majesty that leaves you breathless. Once we have reached the bank of the stream and passed on the other bank, we still follow some barely mentioned paths that follow the ridge of the mountain and, after a little effort, we find ourselves at the small clearing that leads us, finally to the coveted waters of the waterfall.
The return is easier and passes through the oasis of the former village Canovai.
