The old town with its numerous churches, surrounded by medieval walls, has preserved the Renaissance style. There are many twisted streets, romantic views and picturesque corners. The town of Znojmo is also a renowned wine centre. Znojmo’s famous past is represented by the oldest monument in the town, the Romanesque rotunda of the Virgin Mary and St. Catherine from the mid 11th century located in the area of Znojmo Castle. Only a couple of centuries more recent are the extensive underground passageways whose 30 km long corridors run under most of the houses, streets and squares of the old town. Being a popular destination for families with children, part of the route has a fairy-tale and scary atmosphere, and for adults there are wine tastings. You can admire the city from above from the panoramic walkway of the town hall tower. Another impressive monument of the city is the Cathedral of St. Nicholas. Don’t miss a visit to the interior because nowhere else will you find a baroque pulpit in the shape of a globe.
