The Whale Museum is a museum located in downtown Húsavík, North Iceland. As the name suggests, the museum is dedicated to the history of whale watching in Iceland and Icelandic culture related to whaling. The museum displays a large collection of whale-related artifacts, including bones, teeth, and skeletons. There are also life-size whale models, films and photographs documenting the history of whale watching in Iceland. There is also a reconstruction of a whaling station in one of the museum’s rooms, giving a detailed view of the equipment and methods used for whaling. The Whale Museum is an interesting stop for those who want to learn more about this animal but also about Icelandic culture and its fishing history. Also, as I mentioned earlier, Húsavík is one of the best cities for whale watching, so the museum might be a good introduction before an excursion to see these giants of the sea.
