Vrbnik,a wonderful hidden gems of Croatia

Located on the island of Krk, Vrbnik is one of the most beautiful hidden gems of Croatia. This city with just less 1000 inhabitants welcomes every year travellers from around the world seduced by its beauty. It is a small destination, a rare pearl, with few hotels and tourist apartments. Vrbnik is situated on the northeastern coast of the island of Krk, overlooking the Velebit strait in the small bay of St. Mark. It is located right above the sea on a 49 m high cliff that in the northern part vertically plunges into the sea. Access from the sea is quite difficult, while there is a steep road that goes from the port to the center of the town. Near Vrbnik there are fertile fields where vines, olive trees and garden plants are grown: in the vineyards of Vrbnik the famous Vrbnik Zlahtina grapes are grown. Vrbnik is the city of Glagolitic, Francopan princes, sacred artifacts, wine cellars and fortifications. It is also an example of urbanization inseparably integrated with the unspoiled nature: it has a medieval structure and several monuments of inestimable value including the church of St. George, the church of St. John the Baptist, the Bacin courtyard, the church of Our Lady, the bell tower of the parish church… the town is in fact present in the list of Croatian Cultural Monuments compiled in 1970.
