Lost among the first hills of the Locride, the village of Gerace has a Norman and Byzantine amyme. And it is of a simple and unique beauty. Certainly among the most beautiful brooks in Italy. Gerace is located in the Aspromonte National Park, on the Ionian coast of Calabria in a naturalistic setting that will leave you surprised. Also called Costa dei Gelsomini for the typical cultivation of the jasmine plant widespread throughout the province of Reggio Emilia. The mountainous part is covered by woods where beech, holm oak, chestnut and the typical Mediterranean scrub prevail. Walking through a network of courtyards, you will cross the three main nuclei of the city: the Upper Town, the Borgo Maggiore and the Borghetto. With a short walk you can admire the Castle (the ruins of Byzantine origins are in the upper part, as it played a defensive role against Arab attacks), the Cathedral, the Church of San Francesco, a series of small churches probably of Byzantine origin, as well as numerous civil buildings of various ages and architectural styles.
