Villa Pignatelli was built in 1826 by the architect Pietro Valente for the English Acton family. The Rothschilds became the new owners two decades later. In 1955 Rosina Pignatelli donated to the State the residence that her ancestor Prince Diego had bought from the Rothschilds, and which took its present name from him. The most beautiful rooms of the villa are the red Louis XVI style hall, the leather-covered fumoir and the ballroom, with large mirrors and chandeliers. In the rooms on the first floor there are paintings and sculptures of the Neapolitan sphere made in ‘600, ‘700 and ‘800 and belonging to the collection of the Banco di Napoli. In the Park there is the Carriage Museum, with a collection of Italian and French examples. Villa Pignatelli also has spaces for exhibitions, concerts and cultural initiatives.
