Vila Nova de Milfontes is located at the mouth of the river Mira. This charming village owes much of its development to tourism, which has been increasing especially in recent years. The beautiful quiet beaches of the Costa Vicentina are frequented mainly because they maintain their natural characteristics and their exceptional conditions for the practice of water sports.
Among the architectural heritage of the old town are the Fortress, built between 1599 and 1602 to defend the city from pirate attacks, the Ingreja Matriz and the Lighthouse of Cabo Sardão, built at the beginning of the 20th century.
