Via Krupp connects the old town centre with the seaside area of Marina Piccola and is a marvel. It’s a strange name to associate with something found on the island of Campania, but Krupp and its street have distant roots, in the early 1900s, when German industrialist Friedrich Alfred Krupp used to spend his summer holidays on Capri. He used to dock with his yacht in Marina Piccola but it was inconvenient for him to reach the hotel; the solution? Commissioning the engineer Emilio Mayer to build a road from Marina Piccola to the area of the Charterhouse of San Giacomo and the Gardens of Augustus, the conformation of the land and the work of the engineer who had the rock cut alive and overcoming a difference in height of about 100 meters, gave life to one of the most spectacular roads in the world.
