Venzone is one of the most beautiful villages in Friuli Venezia Giulia, but also in Italy. In fact, a few years ago, it was elected the most beautiful village in Italy for the 2017 edition of the award of the Rai Kilimangiaro program. Venzone is one of the most extraordinary examples of restoration in the field of architecture and art.
Venzone is the only example in the region of integral use of the reconstruction method called "by anastylosis": an innovative method "thought up, studied and applied for the first time to an entire medieval village" right here in Venzone following the 1976 earthquake, and which has since been copied for the reconstruction of historic buildings damaged by catastrophic events.
Today it is also the only remaining example in Friuli Venezia Giulia of a fourteenth-century fortified town. Let yourself be fascinated by the imposing medieval walls and by the numerous historical monuments such as the Cathedral of St. Andrew and the mysterious and ancient Chapel of St. Michael, home of the historical mummies: their history dates back to 1647, when the mummy of the "hunchback" came to light, the first of about forty extracted from the tombs of the Cathedral.
The Town Hall is a splendid example of a Gothic-Venetian palace.
