A place of clouds and mysteries, this is the origin of the name "Fumo" (smoke) of this spectacular valley on the border with Lombardy.
A valley of glacial origin at the foot of Carè Alto (3462 m. above sea level), it is home to the sources of the Chiese River and a welcoming refuge (1998 m. above sea level), near the malga where butter and cheese are produced. The refuge is an excellent base for excursions into the Adamello group, on the sites of the White War (1915-18).
The Val di Fumo is the upper part of the long and interesting Valle di Daone, which is frequented for its mushrooms, flowers and animals, but also for its numerous "malghe" (shepherd’s huts) and is famous for its waterfalls – even those that are frozen in winter – and for this reason is a destination for ice climbing.
The Val di Fumo can be reached from the car park of the Malga Bissina lake, from where you can take a walk along the path that runs along the western side of the Bissina dam and leads to the Rifugio Val di Fumo.
