Utö is the southernmost inhabited island in Finland. It takes five hours by ferry to reach this small island in the Baltic Sea. Utö is a popular destination during the cold winter, as well as during the bird migration period in spring and autumn.
The rocky island stretches over just one square kilometre, with only 50 inhabitants living there all year round. After the Finnish armed forces left the island in 2005, military buildings were taken over by the locals and are now rented out as tourist accommodation.
