University of Notre Dame and its symbol: The Golden Dome

The Golden Dome atop of the main administration building has become one of the most recognisable symbols of the University of Notre Dame. Rebuilt after a fire, the dome was topped with a 19-foot gilded statue of the Virgin Mary, to reflect the university’s Catholic identity. Other architectural landmarks include the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, which has the largest collection of 19th-century French stained glass in the world.
