University Botanical Garden

Founded in 1593, the Botanic Garden Heidelberg is among the oldest botanic gardens in the world. Major scientific works by Heidelberg botanists are inextricably linked to the garden, and its research and conservation collections are renowned around the world. To this can be added an herbarium harboring 350.000 specimens. The history of the university garden began with the cultivation of medicinal plants for the education of future doctors. The current location of the botanical garden was established in 1915. On an area of less than 3 hectares there are about 12 thousand plant species from around the world.
