The Canyon of the Dniester River in Ukraine constitutes one of the most picturesque locations in the country. The river rises in Ukraine and then continues through Moldova to drain into the Black Sea after entering Ukraine again. The Dniester is regarded as one of Europe’s most beautiful rivers and the Dniester Canyon is one of Ukraine’s ‘Seven Natural Wonders.’ The canyon snakes its way through three regions of Ukraine and offers amazing vistas of forests, rocky cliffs, caves and grottoes, islands, and waterfalls. The Dniester River is the second largest and the most ecologically clean river in Ukraine. The canyon is partly flooded by reservoir waters. At its deepest it reaches around 50 meters. Dniester Canyon is a 250 km (160 mi) river segment from the mouth of Zolota Lypa River to the mouth of Zbruch. Here the Dniester flows in a canyon valley with a depth of 80–200 m (260–660 ft).
