Socca is one of the most famous culinary specialties of Nice and one of the most representative of this city. Made from chickpea flour, you’ll find some great ones in the old town of Nice, and according to some, the real socca can only be found in Vieux Nice, the old town.
Crispy on the surface and soft underneath, socca is perfect as street food, perhaps while you’re strolling through the market, but it’s also ideal for an aperitif or… a game of pétanque. Some restaurants in Nice bring socca to the table while you’re waiting for your food, much like pizzerias in Nice do with sliced white pizza: as well as being a food, socca is a great pastime.
