Trento is the capital of Trentino, is located in the valley of the Adige river and it is known throughout Europe for having been the location of the famous Council in the 1500s. The city is full of churches, palaces, and architectural beauty in Gothic and Renaissance style, and is culturally rich thanks to the prestigious University, and the many museums and historical places that you can visit.
The first thing to do is to go for a walk through the historical centre: from the Duomo [cathedral] to the enchanting Piazza with the Fountain of Neptune, and then among the palaces with frescoed façades, towers, and alleys, to the Castello del Buonconsiglio, the sumptuous residence of the Bishopric of Trento, and now a museum. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Museum of Science – the famous MUSE – designed by Renzo Piano: young and old alike will enjoy it.
