Tian Tan Buddha, a 202-ton statue of the deity commonly ” lies West of the city centre in the mountainous terrain of Lantau Island. The best way to get to the Big Buddha is to hop on the Ngong Ping 360 gondola, which offers impressive views of North Lantau Country Park, Hong Kong International Airport, the South China Sea, and the surrounding countryside. The statue is 34 metres tall and was constructed from 202 bronze pieces. Reputedly the figure can be seen across the bay from as far away as Macau on a clear day. If you want to get up close though, be ready to climb 268 steps to reach the statue.
