The Wonderful Barn

The Wonderful Barn is a corkscrew-shaped building on the edge of the Castletown House Estate, formerly owned by the Conolly family, in Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland. The barn itself is formally located in nearby Leixlip. Dating back to 1743, with external stairs winding around its surface, it is believed that the building was originally a grain store. The Wonderful Barn is well known for its unusual design, built in the shape of an inverted funnel rising over 70 feet high, with a cantilevered set of 94 steps wrapping around the exterior. It is unique in all of Ireland, except for one other structure – the so-called Bottle Tower in Churchtown, Dublin.
