The Village of Altos de Chavón

The Village of Altos de Chavón is located in the Dominican Republic, in the region of La Romana, and is a very interesting tourist and cultural complex.The village was built in the 1970s as a replica of a medieval European village and includes a large central plaza, a church, an art school, stores, restaurants, and an outdoor amphitheater. It was designed and built by an Italian architect, Roberto Copa, and an American film designer, Peter Woytuk.The village has become famous for its art school, the Altos de Chavón School of Design, which offers curricula in fashion, graphic design, interior design, and visual arts. Many internationally renowned artists have passed through the school, and the village has become an important cultural center in the region.In addition, Altos de Chavón’s outdoor amphitheater has been the site of numerous concerts and performances, featuring the likes of Frank Sinatra, Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, Gloria Estefan, and Santana.In summary, the Village of Altos de Chavón is a unique place that combines art, culture, and entertainment in a Mediterranean atmosphere, and is definitely one of the most interesting places to visit in the Dominican Republic.
