The Theatre of the Ruderi di Cirella was born on the initiative of the Municipal Administration of Diamante, on a project of the engineers Francesco Tucci and Francesco Cristofaro. The structure, built between 1994 and 1997, is located near the archaeological site of ancient Cirella, a hill town where the inhabitants of Diamante took refuge to escape the Saracen raids of the ninth century. The location, rich in history and natural beauty, offers a unique atmosphere to the representations. Every summer here are staged major theatrical events, musical concerts and various shows. During the month of August, the theatre also hosts the "Cirella antica festival" which covers almost the entire summer period.
