Everything is still calm at the top of the Ylläs ski area on the morning of a Sunday in mid-February, and from the top of the Ylläs mountain you can admire this wonderful view. Stretching your eyes over the national park, which begins at the foot of the mountain, you can see Mount Pallas in the background, illuminated by bright sunlight. Right in front of me is Mount Kellostapuli, and behind the Kesänki, as the mist clouds the valley.
Ylläs, or Yllästunturi in Finnish, is a 718-metre (2,356 ft) high fell in the municipality of Kolari in Lapland Province of Finland. There are two villages near Ylläs: Äkäslompolo on the north side and Ylläsjärvi in the south. They are connected by an 11 km road, around the side of the fell. Both villages derive much of their income from tourism.
