The Rio Tinto un fiume rosso| Spain

The Rio Tinto is a river that crosses the city of Huelva in southwest Spain. You’re probably wondering now why a river is so special? Well, the name of the river in fact means ‘painted’ in Spanish and owes its name to the color brick red. The area along the river has been a mine of copper, gold and other metals for centuries. After many years of mining the iron level had dissolved in the river which made the water extremely acidic.
