The prettiest villages of France:Autoire

Castles and mansions line the cobbled streets of Autoire and give it the nickname”Le Petit Versailles”. The waterfall at the top of the town, which flows from the Causse de Gramat and into the river Autoire winding its way through the village, is well worth a visit. It is officially one of the most beautiful villages in France “Les Plus Beaux Villages de France”. There are very attractive 16th and 17th century houses built from the local honey-coloured stone. The main square in the centre of the village with its fountain and flowers is a popular place to spend time day dreaming. Take a detour to the Roque d’Autoire, also known as the Castle of the English. This semi-troglodyte fortress, built on a slight shelf, backed by the limestone cliff is only 2 metres wide.
