The Praetorian Palace is located in the heart of Varese, in Piazza del Podestà, next to Palazzo Biumi.
The palace is one of the few testimonies of the city’s municipal past, which resisted the urbanization project put in place at the beginning of the 1900s. It was the seat of the Praetorian and then the town hall of Varese for more than three hundred years, until 1882, when it was transferred to Palazzo Estense. In the small square in front of the building there is a bronze monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi and the Battle of Varese in 1859.
