The Hamburg Port è the largest port in Germany and the second largest in Europe (after Rotterdam in the Netherlands). It is located on the Elbe River, about 100 km from the North Sea. This seemingly strange distance from the sea is explained by the fact that the North Sea has large differences between high tide and low tide, which makes it impossible to load and unload large ships in ports directly on the sea. However, the difference between the tides can still be felt in Hamburg!
.

The port covers an area of about 7,400 ha; most of the turnover comes from container ships. But also for tourism, the port è very important.

From the "Landungsbrücken" numerous boats depart daily with which you can take sightseeing tours of the harbor that should be part of every visit to the city. Take a boat ride between the docks to see for yourself the constant coming and going of millions of tons of goods.

Also be sure to board one of the museum ships, especially the incredible U-Boat 434.
