Perce Rock, in Quebec, Canada, is one of the largest arches over water in the world. A limestone island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the formation is 1,420 feet (433m) long and over 300 feet (90m) wide. Considered a historical and geological icon, named after the hole drilled in its structure, Perce Rock is about a 75-minute boat ride from Perce. Trips are limited to the period from late May to mid-October (exact dates change annually). There are many guided tours available, which can provide an interesting insight into the flora and fauna, geology and fossils of the rock. There is a wonderful legend of the Perce Rock.
