Extremely varied, even in eclectic style, the palaces and buildings of the Kremlin nevertheless form a complex whole. This unique combination of styles and eras gives the Kremlin’s architectural complex an incomparable charm. Each historical era has left its mark on the facades and also on the interiors of the palaces and rooms. The Grand Kremlin Palace was the home of the Tsars in the 19th century and then the centre of Soviet power; the Poteshny Palace was at different times a noble residence, a comedy theatre, police headquarters and now a church; the Senate Palace is a classical masterpiece, famous for its circular hall, now the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation.
