The Orco Bridge is one of the most important examples of natural "bridges" existing in Northern Italy, formed by two gigantic rock pillars surmounted by a large Dolomite boulder.
It can be reached from the small church of San Vendemmiano in the municipality of Ivano Fracena or from the small church of Rocchetta in the municipality of Ospedaletto. Legend has it that one day a young shepherd was returning home with his 30 sheep and found the road interrupted by a precipice. It was then that appeared the figure of a man who offered him the construction of a very long bridge in exchange for his soul. The shepherd, scared, nodded and the man said some incomprehensible words that the wind immediately carried away. Where there was the precipice rose an imposing bridge, of stone and strong. Not thirty, but as many as 300 sheep could cross it. The shepherd returned to his house in Ospedaletto to lock up the sheep, but since then he was never seen again.
