Mustaccioli are typical Christmas sweets of the Campania confectionery tradition that take their name from "mosto", the ingredient with which they were once prepared. Soft dough inside and delicious dark chocolate icing outside, mustaccioli are well known for their original rhomboidal shape.
Tradition has it that they are sweets of about 10-12 cm in size, but in recent years a mignon variant like the one proposed in this recipe has spread. A small pastry cake that cannot be missed on the Campania tables during Christmas.
The classic version of the mustaccioli, involves the use of honey, cocoa and almonds, but the variants with rum, lemon, coffee and pistachios are also well known. White chocolate is often used instead of dark chocolate for the covering.
