The Musée des Confluences is a museum of natural history, anthropology, sociology and civilization. It is the most recent museum in Lyon.
The building is located at the end of the La Confluence district, where the Rhone and Saône rivers meet. The bold building made of glass, concrete and stainless steel was designed by the architecture firm Coop Himmelb(l)au. Inside, it brings together diverse knowledge: scientific, technological, social, environmental, human, historical and geographical.
The museum houses several collections, including those of the Guimet natural history museum, which is currently closed. In 2011, Le Musée des Confluences was awarded the distinction of Museum of France.
