The All Saints’ Day mouse, a typical Comacchio biscuit, is a biscuit in the shape of a mouse which is only prepared on 1st and 2nd November. This biscuit, known in the local dialect as Pùnghèn Cmàscìaìs ad Sean Pièr, is linked to the legend of the invasion of mice at the new cemetery which, according to agreements made with the French during the Napoleonic era, was located in the Raibosola valley. The rats suddenly disappeared after appeals and prayers to the Madonna, who has always been the patron saint of Comacchio.
During the feast of the dead and the saints, it is traditional to prepare a number of biscuits in the shape of a mouse equal to the number of family members so that everyone can exorcise what happened in the past by eating the mouse.
This delight has the dough of the classic doughnut and the shape of a mouse, decorated with tasty chocolate chips.
